It takes a village

Melody LaTorre was in her second trimester when she learned she had brain cancer. In a race against time, Gabriel Zada, MD, from Keck Medicine of USC’s Brain Tumor Center, would call in maternal-fetal medicine specialists and an expert OB/GYN to save both mother and child.

Making the OR Greener

Arash Motamed, MD, medical director for operating rooms at Keck Hospital of USC, is making Keck Hospital operating rooms more sustainable by phasing out a commonly used anesthetic gas known as desflurane.

As popular as desflurane is among anesthetists, it contributes significantly to climate change given its greenhouse gas effect.

Keck Medicine of USC celebrates Juneteenth

On June 19, the Black Leaders and Colleagues at Keck Medicine of USC (B.L.A.C.K. Med) employee resource group for Black and African American employees, honored Juneteenth with a flag-raising ceremony at Keck Medical Center, followed by a celebration with food, music, dancing and local vendors.
